ABOUT Sharon Safran

We were saddened by Sharon Safran's death in October 2023. Her husband David Hirsch has generously donated some of her work to Artisans United. We are auctioning her weavings and drawings to fund some of our classes and outreach, to honor Sharon's long focus and interest in teaching and outreach in the arts.

Some of her work also will remain available for purchase in the craft gallery as we remember her long-time membership in Artisans United and her many contributions to the arts.

In her earlier years as a painter on canvas and watercolor paper, Sharon was enamored with the magic of colors and how they interplayed with each other. After studying textiles at the Rhode Island School of Design, Sharon began to include texture in all her work, beginning with weaving on a loom. Later she discovered the incredible world of silk painting, which allowed her to bring together the joy of color with silk as a canvas.
